This course is focused upon advanced functionality of the Visual Basic Programming language.
This course is aimed at students with programming experience, or students who have completed the Visual Basic Programming 1 course at CCT.
Programme Aims and Objectives
This course exposes the learner to advanced concepts of the Visual Basic Programming language.
Once this course is completed, the learner will be able to:
- Develop an advanced Visual Basic application
- Package and deploy a Visual Basic application
- Utilize and repurpose existing Visual Basic Code
- Design an authentication procedure for an application
- Implement a secure authentication procedure
- Develop an application that utilizes a database for reading and writing of data
- Develop a dynamic application that utilises third party services for data
- Design and implement an application that processes XML and JSON based data

- Object oriented programming with Visual Basic
- Design patterns
- Error handling and native logging
- Outline of common utility functions available in Visual Basic
- Implementing open source packages in your code
- Unit testing your code with Visual Basic
- Creating distributable applications, allowing your software to easily be transported and installed on other computers
- Manipulating XML and JSON with Visual Basic
- Interacting with databases using Visual Basic
- Benchmarking your code and optimization strategies
- Developing a lightweight client for interacting with HTTP servers
- Accessing third-party APIs such as Twitter through Visual Basic, opening the potential of your application to utilize data services
- Processing HTML documents using Document Object Model parsers.
