Course details
Each session will begin with an introduction to Suzuki training and will continue with explorations of Viewpoints. Based on the traditions of Japanese Noh and Kabuki theatre, the Suzuki method is a rigorous training technique meant to strengthen the mind, body and voice through a series of precise and demanding exercises. Each exercise emphasizes rigor and stillness simultaneously to create dynamic tensions in the body, mind and voice. Suzuki training awakens the warrior in every actor to create and harness power in performance. We will also explore the 9 principals of the physical viewpoints. Viewpoints allows actors to freely engage with internal and external stimuli – getting the actor kinesthetically aware and getting out of their head. Viewpoints’ training engages playfully with expression and encourages actors to be insightful rather than interesting.
