Course details

This Facilities Management Advanced Apprenticeship is available to anyone aged over 16.

Facilities managers are responsible for the day to day running of a building when the construction work has been completed. It includes the management and administration of schools, hospitals, offices and sporting venues so that a safe and efficient working environment is provided.

They are on hand to ensure a building is functioning including general maintenance and security.

What skills and qualities do apprentices need?

Good communication skills, good organisational skills, the ability to work well in a team.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (9-4) including English, maths and science.

All applicants will be required to pass an assessment and be aged 16 or over, already be employed or have secured a work placement.

If you are aged 16-18 and unable to find an apprenticeship, you can apply for a study programme and switch over at any point when you do find one.

What would apprentices learn at College?

  • The ways to meet the needs of customers, colleagues and key stakeholders including problem solving, recruiting staff, organising and delegating work 
  • The ways to identify, plan and evaluate the delivery of facilities management services including maintenance, security and utility service 
  • The health, safety and environmental responsibilities 
  • No matter what level you are currently working at, you will be expected to further your skills in English and maths. 

Next steps

After completing this course there are a number of options available; depending on your final grade you could move onto a higher education course including a HNC/HND, higher apprenticeship or a degree at university, or you could seek employment.
