Course Overview
The aim of this programme is to enhance the research and employment potential of students who seek to specialise in international accounting and finance. It is particularly suitable for those who seek to develop an academic career in research. It is also suitable for those seeking a professional career in this area, or for those already established in such a career who wish to extend their skill set and familiarise themselves with the latest themes of research in the areas of international accounting and finance.
The core of the programme is the stream on international accounting which consists of three courses taken over semesters 1 and 2. These classes seek to provide students with an international perspective to the study of accounting so that they can develop an understanding of the reasons for national differences; the tendencies towards harmonisation; and the problems of multinational companies. This is done within the context of supporting classes on accounting theory and research methodology.
Programme content
Students take six core courses and two courses from a list of options, as shown below:
- International Accounting Standards
- Corporate Finance
- Financial Analysis
- International Accounting Theory
- International Management Accounting
- Research Methods
Satisfactory completion of these courses will lead to the award of a Diploma.
In addition to these taught courses, students pursuing the Masters qualification undertake a research project.
Entry requirements
Bachelors Honours degree A good first or second class Honours degree in a cognate or semicognate discipline.
Postgraduate Diploma Attainment of 50% pass level in the MSc International Accounting & Finance programme examinations.
Professional/corporate membership Membership of a professional institution in a cognate discipline that normally requires an Honours degree for entry.
English language requirements
Where English was not the medium of instruction at secondary school, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 580 (paper-based exam); 213 (computer-based exam); 80 (internet-based exam).
