Module Elective 1 Course Content is as follows:

  • Adult Learning and Teaching Methodology in the tuition of Exercise & Health Fitness Instructors
  • Research Skills and Programme Development in Exercise & Health Fitness
  • Best Practice in the tuition of Exercise & Health Fitness Instructors
  • Exercise & Health Fitness Tutor Education: Evaluation & Assessment
  • Applied Multimedia in Exercise & Health Fitness Tuition
  • Teaching Applications and Work Placement
  • Final Project Submission

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Module Elective 1 Entry Requirements:

  • Higher Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness (HCEHF) or equivalent (e.g. 60 ECTS Credits) or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum two years practical experience working in the Health/Leisure/Fitness industry or in an area relevant to the role of an NCEF Tutor (e.g. teaching at further or higher education in a relevant field).
  • Knowledge: Broad knowledge base in Certificate in Exercise & Health Fitness modules and Year 2 HCEHF specialist courses.
  • OFA Occupational First Aid (OFA) is an NCEF & industry requirement. All candidates on the above programme must provide a current OFA Certificate prior to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and mature disposition.
  • Teaching experience in any discipline. Practical experience of working in any of the HCEHF specialist courses.
  • Successful interview: Interviews can be completed via face to face, telephone or skype.

NCEF/UL Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Scheme:

  • Previously qualified and expired NCEF Level 1 and applicants with equivalent qualifications are eligible to apply for entry on to this programme through the NCEF/UL RPL Scheme. Applicants will be assessed on an inpidual basis and in accordance with NCEF/UL RPL criteria.
  • RPL applicants are required to complete a pro-forma Portfolio of Learning (POL).Please note an Recognition of Prior Learning fee of €125 applies to all applicants required to submit a Portfolio of Learning and on successful acceptance the fee is deducted from the overall programme fee.

About National Council for Exercise & Fitness

The National Council for Exercise & Fitness (NCEF) provides and facilitates comprehensive education and training for Exercise and Health Fitness Professional Instructors in Ireland

The NCEF was initially established in 1987 by the Physical Education Association of Ireland (PEAI) in association with Thomond College of Education (now integrated into the University of Limerick). The initiation of the scheme was also supported by the Sports Section, Department of Education at that time. The NCEF is an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick.

The NCEF is a registered company limited by guarantee. It operates on a not-for-profit basis and is guided by a Board of Trustees. Board members consist of representation from PEAI, UL, business, education, employer and leisure industry backgrounds.
