Training for Jobs in Surfing and Lifeguarding Industry Momentum Skills

    Course details

    The aim of the programme is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge to successfully take up employment as a Surf Instructor, Beach Lifeguard or Pool Lifeguard. Learners may also obtain their minibus Licence (category D1). The course includes the following core modules: ISA Surf Coach Level 1, Occupational First Aid, Royal Life Saving Pool Life Guard, and Royal Life Saving Beach Life Guard. An optional extra to increase your chances of employment is the Minibus Licence (category D1) with Driver CPC Card. Learners will also complete a work placement in an adventure centre or Leisure Centre as a lifeguard or surf instructor. Completing this programme will enhance your chances of securing employment in a Surf School, Adventure Centre, Local Authority (Beach) or Leisure Centre (Pool). Applicants for this Momentum Programme must be unemployed for longer and be in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance / Benefit or on the Live Register for onger. Eligibility must be confirmed by DSP Employment Services.

    Requirements

    • Applicant must be over 18 years of age
    • No Specific Education/Training Level Required Computer Literacy
    • Good communications skills Outgoing Personality Ability to work as a team (teamwork) Good numerical and literacy skills Excellent command of the English language Candidates must be proficient at surfing and general fitness must be at a good level. Strong Swimming Ability. Must be able to swim 100m in a swimming pool in less than 2 minutes. Garda Vetting will be required for all applicants. Learners must be available and willing to work outside normal working hours such as evenings and at weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). This is essential in the Leisure Industry Sector. Applicants wishing to complete the minibus licence and Driver CPC must have a full car licence prior to starting the course. Applicants wishing to complete the minibus licence module will be required to pass an in-vehicle CAB test and must hold a learner permit (provisional licence) in the minibus before the end of the induction module (by start of week 4). Driver Theory assessment fees and provisional licence fees are not provided as part of the module.
    • Experience working with groups of people or in a profession involving outdoor activities is an advantage but not a necessity Strong interest in outdoor activities and water sports
