This qualification replaces the Metropolitan Police Test and has now been introduced nationally.
This course is for those with some experience in interpreting who wish to gain a qualification recognised at national and European level in order to work in Police Interpreting.
This is a first-degree level qualification (Level 6).
Students who gain the DPI qualification will be able to apply for registration on the National Register for Public Services Interpreters (NRPSI Ltd.) and will be able to use the initials DPI after their name.
The Diploma in Police Interpreting examinations consist of five units and the structure is as follows:
- Interpret consecutively two-way in a Police context and take a Police statement
- Interpret simultaneously – whispered – from English in a Police context
- Provide a Sight Translation from English in a Police context
- Translate a Police statement into English
- Translate from English in a Police context
The exams will take place twice a year in November and May and are organised by the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIoL). Updated on 20 January, 2018
