Course details

This is an experiential training that will help anyone who works with children develop skills and gain a personal understanding of how play works as a therapeutic medium, the safety and boundary issues to consider, and explore ways to ensure that their work with children, in whatever setting and whatever the child’s difficulties, has the potential to become therapeutic and/or facilitate development of emotional & social intelligence and resilience.

Participants will experience a range of child centred play based interventions for themselves. We utilise and explore the use of non-directive therapeutic play sessions, creative techniques, the therapeutic use of stories, and story-making techniques to facilitate the child’s holistic development and provide assistance in overcoming adjustment difficulties. This will empower participants to approach their young clients, in whatever setting, from a new place where relationships will be more meaningful, empathy is truly possible and the approach more child centred.

We will focus on building non-directive play skills for 3 days, and explore the use of storytelling, storymaking, and creative visualisation for the remainder of the week. This experiential work will be supported by input in relation to building a therapeutic environment and supportive relationship.
Participants are advised not to schedule any work during the week to allow themselves engage fully in the course. Certificates of attendance are presented to each participant.
