The Majors: Choose 1

Fashion Styling

From fashion forecasting, journalism, PR, location sourcing, garment fittings and fashion buying, our highly recognised Fashion Styling course provides students with expert level training. The curriculum combined with industry leading lecturers thoroughly prepares students for a career in the fashion industry.

Past and present lecturers include Deirdre McQuillan, Fashion Editor of The Irish Times, Corina Gaffey, Fashion Editor of KISS and Stellar Magazine, Lorna Claire Weightman, Fashion Blogger and writer, Courtney Smith, International Stylist, Daniel Holfeld, Professional Fashion photographer.

Photography

The best way to capture your work is through the medium of photography, yet what if you could cut out the middle man and do that for yourself? A photographer can make or break a makeup artists work, and in turn be extremely expensive.

In the creative arts industry it pays, quite literally, to be as self-sufficient as possible. Having photography as a skill not only benefits the artist financially but creatively.

Special Effects

The influx of film and TV production companies on our shores, especially in Dublin, Wicklow and Northern Ireland has grown significantly over the last two years, with the Irish film industry generating an increase of 20% in revenue last year. This is set to increase again in 2014 with overseas productions being filmed here- great news for the Irish film industry and of course for our future graduates.

If TV, Film and Theatre Makeup Artistry is where you see your career heading, this major is the one for you.

Business Management

Many makeup artists dream of opening their own business, yet can't get past the idea stage. Most of the time this is down to not knowing where to start. When choosing Business Management as your major, you will be taken through everything from retail management, accounts, product buying, marketing skills and consultancy.

Become your own boss and establish yourself not only as a successful makeup artist, but as a successful business owner.

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Year 2 Diploma in Makeup Artistry applies to graduating 1 Year Advanced HNC or Professional Course students who wish to go on and specialise in a particular area of study whilst also gaining their industry recognised diploma in Makeup Artistry.

When choosing to study with LA College our 1 Year HNC students and Professional students have already made a dedicated decision to embark on a career in the creative industry. Year 2 at LA College isn't about making broad choices between public and private, creative or academic, those have already been made, and now it is time to utilise those choices to the highest regard.

When entering into Year 2, you will pick a major in either Fashion Styling, Business Management, Special Effects or Photography, along with your core Year 2 subjects in Film and Theatre Makeup based on how you want to see your career develop and in turn be trained to the highest standard. You will then complete an industry internship associated directly with your chosen major, and place yourself on an employment ladder that has a lot less rungs than those within a general field.

The Internship

After completing your academic year, all students will be placed on an internship in which they will work with a company relevant to their chosen major. Current internships available include placements in design houses, television studios and roles within fashion and beauty magazines

About LA College of Creative Arts

The LA College of Creative Arts was founded in 2005 by Lorraine O’Neill. After travelling extensively across the world studying every element of the make-up and beauty industry, Lorraine returned home and spotted an immediate gap in the market for a college that offered a superior level of training in creative arts. Lorraine’s vision soon became a reality and since then she has worked tirelessly to offer the best of the best in international training.Originally focused solely on make-up artistry training, trading as LA Make-Up Academy, the college now offers a wide range of internationally accredited full and part-time courses in textile design, millinery, photography, fashion marketing, beauty therapy, brand management, fashion styling and hair-styling. These include introductory courses and workshops for beginners seeking to learn basic technique and application through to highly intensive degree options devised for those who wish to pursue a long lasting and successful career within their chosen discipline.
