Islamic Finance continues to show a positive growth trajectory, fulfilling its foreseen potential, with Islamic banks operating globally, showing more growth and consistency as compared to their conventional counterparts. As a result, there is a continuous critical need for banking professionals who are grounded in their understanding of the substance and form of Islamic Finance.
The Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance programme is a post-graduate level professional qualification addressing the needs of both Islamic and conventional financial institutions providing Islamic banking services and products. It is a part-time evening program emphasizing the practical aspects of Islamic banking with fair coverage of the theoretical foundation of the subject. The programme has been designed to:
- Provide a professional qualification for commerce graduates to initiate a career in the banking sector
- Enhance career opportunities for those who are already in the banking sector but require a professional qualification
This professional qualification emphasises on the practical aspects of Islamic banking and finance while providing a fair grounding of the jurisprudential foundations of Islamic banking. The Centre is currenlty in the process of collaborating with a couple of high calibre universites in order for the credits received in this programme to be able to be carried forward to a master level qualification elsewhere.
Learning Outcomes

- Develop highly qualified inpiduals with a high level of proficiency in the field of Islamic banking and finance both in terms of theoretical knowledge and practical implementation, further increasing the talent pool of human capital for the Islamic banking and finance industry.
- Develop in students the ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to the solution of practical problems in their professional banking careers.
- Provide students with an extensive understanding of the jurisprudential and theoretical foundations of the key areas in Islamic banking and finance.
- Provide an appreciation of the Islamic banking and finance regulations and standards relating to the industry.
- Train students already working in the Islamic banking sector who desire further specialisation in order to assist continuous career progress in the Islamic banking and finance industry.
Entry Requirements
The programme is conducted in English and as a result, candidates are expected to have a good working knowledge of English in order to progress through the course of study. Applicants who have completed or who are exempt from the Business English Certificate - Level 3 can enrol in the programme directly.
The programme is intended for candidates who can demonstrate prior knowledge of commerce, banking and finance either through (a) relevant banking or finance operations/management experience of up to two years or (b) a business, commerce, banking, accounting, or finance bachelors degree from a recognised university.
