Introduction

There is no debate among business experts that effective teamwork delivers far superior performance than the disjointed, efforts of individuals. Teamwork, when properly directed and executed, can become a huge competitive advantage, offering the potential to catapult organisations to new heights of performance.

Theoretically, creating teams seems simple enough, but a closer look into the actual practice tells a different story. All employers are keen to recruit employees who are able to co-operate and work in teams and as a result of this programme participants will know how to function so that they are productive and accomplish their tasks effectively through a team approach.

Training Aims

The main training aim is to generate critical awareness within the team that persuades members to put aside their individual differences in order to achieve bigger successes.

The programme also aims to provide participants with an understanding of:

  • Knowing how to develop a healthy group climate
  • Collaboration and how it is often a successful ingredient in getting results within the ;workplace and that this will show itself in producing better results through teamwork
  • Boosting the manufacturing process by pulling everyone together and working successfully as a team

At the end of this programme participants should:

  • Understand the basic principles of teamwork
  • Be able to communicate clearly on intellectual and emotional levels
  • Know how to plan and manage group tasks

Training Approach and Methods

  • The trainer will direct, facilitate and support the learning process
  • Participants will engage in group discussions, brainstorming, real life examples, exercises and question / answer sessions
  • The trainer will encourage and direct participants to integrate and apply their own experiences into the training
  • Participants will be asked to participate in all aspects of the training and to evaluate and reflect on the experience

Many employers have a requirement for employees to 'Get on well with people'. This programme will be beneficial for anyone who wants to work confidently within a group, contributing their own ideas effectively, take a share of the responsibility, rather than being passive or aggressive.

About IIE Manufacturing & Engineering Skillnet

The IIE Manufacturing and Engineering Skillnet was established in June 2013. The purpose of the network is to address the skills requirements of the manufacturing and engineering sector. The IIE Manufacturing and Engineering Skillnet aims to provide intensive training programmes that focus on and are driven by specific member company needs. The network is made up of a group of companies that have shared training needs. Member companies can commission training that is suited exactly to their needs and by joining the IIE Manufacturing and Engineering Skillnet companies can benefit from subsidised training cTheirses that can be provided locally and delivered at times that suit them.

The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) acts as the contracting organisation that manages and administers the activities of the network and receives and manages the funds from Skillnets Ltd. on behalf of the network group. The IIE also provides a network manager who is the key coordinator, providing the professional and developmental input. Both the IIE and the network manager will work with a steering group which has been formed from the member companies. This steering group will oversee and direct the network. The group will meet on a regular basis to make management decisions.

The network reserves a limited number of places for unemployed people across all training programmes and many of them provide direct access to employers through work placements.
