Course details

  • Students wishing to join CTLLS will have already achieved PTLLS. The following additional criteria is undertaken with the Certificate:
  • As a trainee teacher on the CTLLS course, you will need to complete 30 teaching practice hours.
  • Teaching practice often starts with some classroom observations, which are not accredited, but which will allow you to understand the setting you are in, and the requirements of the institution.
  • There will be a number of theories and strategies, which you will have studied at college, which you will implement during your practice, and you will be required to reflect on your practice every step of the way.
  • You will demonstrate your ability to plan, deliver and assess your students, and you will be asked to consider a range of initiatives whilst you do this.
  • The theory, which you learn in the classroom at college, will focus your practice in areas such as planning and enabling learning, and planning for and conducting assessments.
  • As well as studying the complete teaching cycle, and you will very early on in CTLLS identify what your key roles and responsibilities will be in practice.
  • During your CTLLS teaching practice, you will be observed for a minimum of 3 hours, over a minimum of 3 occasions. Your mentor or tutor will then provide you with constructive feedback, which will further your development as a teacher.
  • The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, also qualifies you as a Vocational Assessor (see Assessor Qualification), which is a requirement for many awarding bodies.
  • In addition to the PTLLS units, the following will be undertaken:
  • Delivering lifelong learning with an inclusive approach
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners
  • Develop, preparing and using resources for learning and development
  • Assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Develop engaging learning and development programmes

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Graduates of CTLLS can gain employment as teachers, tutors and assessors within their specialist area, or work as Assessors for various awarding bodies.ENTRY.

REQUIREMENTS

- Already hold your award in ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ (PTLLS) - You should be qualified within the specialist subject you wish to teach others. - You should be employed as a teacher or may be doing voluntary teaching practice for at least 30 hours over the course of the CTLLS course. - Demonstrate Literacy and Numeracy at Level 4 (IELTS 6.5 or higher) - You should have a good command of written and spoken English and you should be ICT - You should have an appropriate level of education including English and Maths.
