SWIFT Messages (Letters of Credit, Letters of Guarantee and Collections) Egyptian Banking Institute

In this course, participants will learn the basic components of SWIFT messages and the different types of message fields. They will learn the basic elements of SWIFT messages and the proper way to deal with messages concerning documentary credits, collections and letters of guarantee.

Course Description:

In this course, participants will learn the basic components of SWIFT messages and the different types of message fields. They will learn the basic elements of SWIFT messages and the proper way to deal with messages concerning documentary credits, collections and letters of guarantee.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the general features of SWIFT
  • Explain the elements of documentary credit messages
  • Explain the elements of collection messages
  • Discuss elements of letters of guarantee messages

Course Outline:

Module 1:SWIFT Basics

  • Explain the meaning of SWIFT
  • Explain SWIFT messages work flow between banks through SWIFT society
  • SWIFT messages Types
  • Messages Structure
  • Message Referencing : MUR, MOR,MIR
  • Details of SWIFT acknowledgment received from the SWIFT society

Module 2:Documentary Credit Message Details

  • Function and Logic relationship between the documentary Credit Messages
  • Discuss the following fields: MT 700,701, 705, 707, 710, 711, 720, 721, 730,732,734,740,742, 747, 750,752, 754, 756.
  • Explain the right usage of messages through case studies

Module 3:Collection Messages

  • Function and Logic relationship between the collection Messages
  • Identify different collection messages fields: MT410, 420, 422,430, 412
  • The relationship between MT400and MT202
  • Apply the right use of messages through case studies
  • Discuss the following fields: MT 450, 455,456

Module 4:Letters of Guarantee and Common Group Messages

  • Discuss letters of guarantee messages: MT 760, 767, 768, 769.
  • Identify the common group messages: MTn90, n91, n92, n95, n96, n99.

Assessment Strategy:

Participants will be informally assessed on their interaction during sessions and their participation in exercises.
