Course details
The course provides informal caregivers with a grant to attend training that will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge of the techniques to support or assist the elderly persons in their personal needs, bathing, toileting and oral hygiene. It, moreover, gives the participants occupational capability for employment or provide a sound platform onto further learning or training to sustain the interest of participants working as a caregiver. Upon completion of this program, students will be well equipped with the necessary competency to take on an exciting service career opportunities related to care giving.

Family members and relatives of the dependent elderly in their households and participants in the the field will benefit from the course.
What will I learn?
This course covers the following modules:
- Module One: Bathing Procedure
- Module Two: Toileting and Toilet Care
- Module Three: Oral Hygiene
- Module Four: Lifting and moving dependent elderly
On completion of Module One, learners will be able to: follow procedures and take precautions in bathing the elderly persons: before, during and after
On completion of Module Two, learners will be able to: give bedpan and urinal to dependent elderly
On completion of Module Three, learners will be able to: help the elderly in brushing teeth and mouth care
On completion of Module Four, learners will be able to: demonstrate the use of procedures in lifting and moving dependent elderly up in bed, to the side of the bed, sitting on the side of bed
How will I be assessed?
Student attendance at all lesson sessions will be monitored and should be maintained to a minimum level of 75% attendance.
