Course details
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to supervise others in providing child care and education in a range of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) contexts.
Course Outline
- Key principles and practice in leadership, supervision and or line management within the ECCE setting.
- Role and responsibilities of ECCE supervisor and the key attributes and skills required, to include communication, time management, organisational skills and knowledge of current legislation and best practice guidelines.
- Role of the supervisor in implementing best practice and maintaining standards and quality.
- Motivate and support team members in achieving agreed actions.
- Recognise common challenges and problems when supervising individual and teams, and identify possible resolutions.
- Implement a range of policies and procedures in an ECCE setting ensuring adherence to best practice and guidelines.
- Apply supervisory skills to supervise staff in an ECCE setting
- Delegate and assign work and or tasks to others, monitoring progress and evaluating results.
- Agree plans and actions with staff and monitor and evaluate progress
- Critically reflect on own attributes and skills as a supervisor, analysis of, time management, communication, organisational skills and achievement of objectives.
- Evaluate learning and or training needs of the team, implementing training plans in line with organisational objectives.
Course Work
- Learner Record 100%. A learner record is the learner’s self-reported and self-reflective record in which he/she describes specific learning experiences, activities, responses and skills acquired.

- FETAC Level 5 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or relevant life or work experience
