    Introduction to Local Government Superannuation is for newly appointed pension practitioners and staff working in areas which are involved with, but peripheral to the administration of superannuation. The course is ideally directed towards local authority staff who

    • are new to the area of superannuation administration
    • have a need for an overall awareness (but not necessarily an in-depth knowledge) of superannuation administration
    • are currently working in payroll or personnel or finance and are interested in the area from the perspectives of, for example, staff induction and/or payroll procedures/etc.

    Objectives

    Upon completion of the course, participants will

    • have gained a broad awareness of Local Government Superannuation legislation
    • be able to calculate Officer and Non-Officer Service
    • understand the terminology involved in Superannuation
    • have gained a basic understanding of the calculation of personal benefits and spouses’ and childrens’ pensions.

    • Introduction to and overview of Local Government Superannuation pensions
    • Examination of different regulations governing the reckoning of service and calculation of pensionable remuneration for both Employers and Officers
    • Overview of benefits available to both categories of staff
    • Overview of Spouses’ & Children’s Schemes
