I have a friend who often claims, "Everyone's models are ugly except their own" and I think there's a sound basis for this thought. We often invest a lot of time creating our models without realizing the rest of the world is not making the journey with us. As such since we understand our models, at least we think we do, we don't think about how much support others will need to understand them later. And we seldom do enough to make them understandable to others. The result is typically others don't understand our models, and they think they're ugly and confusing.
