This Advanced Certificate course provides training for those interested in acquiring skills necessary to manage a variety of establishments where animals are kept, including practical and supervisory skills. It integrates aspects from a wide range of animal related disciplines to provide learners with the relevant practical and theoretical knowledge to further their professional careers in this field.
Entry Requirements
Applicants for this Advanced Certificate course must have already successfully obtained a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Animal Care or equivalent. Entry may be subject to interview.

Course Structure
Focus is placed on the large variety of establishments where animals are kept such as boarding kennels, stud farms, zoos, agricultural farms etc. The course aims to provide learners with the skills to be involved in managing such enterprises or developing their own small business in an animal related industry.
Career Options | Progression
Holders of a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Animal Science may progress to further study as a Veterinary Nurse at Institutes of Technology/ Universities or to a range of science related areas, such as Equine Science or Animal Science. Advanced Entry links into Year 2 of the BSc in Veterinary Nursing at Dundalk Institute of Technology are under discussion. You may also directly enter employment as a veterinary assistant, zoo keeper, kennel keeper, pet shop worker/manager, animal rescue worker or open your own animal care business.
