Introduction
This Advanced Certificate course is particularly aimed at those who hold a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent and who wish to continue their studies at a higher level. It provides practical and theoretical knowledge for those who intend to pursue a career in the horticulture sector, or those interested in any area of outdoor work that involves the care and management of plants, landscapes and other natural resources.
Entry Requirements
Applicants for this Advanced Certificate course must have already successfully obtained a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Horticulture/Applied Ecology or equivalent. Entry may be subject to interview.

Course Structure
This course emphasises the role of Horticulture in tackling a range of problems faced by today's society, including sustainable food production, biopersity protection and source water protection. It also introduces learners to new innovations such as vertical growing, green roof construction, permaculture, horticulture therapy and forest gardening. This course takes a problem-based approach to learning, which seeks to enhance the student's problem solving ability, motivation and collaboration skills. Learners are encouraged to take a self-directed approach to their own learning experience.
Career Options | Progression
Holders of a QQI Advanced Certificate in Horticulture can directly enter employment in garden centres, nurseries, garden design and landscaping, garden maintenance, sports turf management, parks management etc. Alternatively, students may progress to further studies at Institutes of Technology/Universities (e.g. in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry, Agriculture, Applied Biosciences, Ecology etc).
