Natural resources that are vital to life on the planet such as water, soil and biodiversity are finite and vulnerable to damage through over-exploitation and poor management. The Ecology course focuses on the intelligent and responsible management of these valuable ecosystem resources, ensuring that people can continue to enjoy them.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate with 5 passes or Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent. For mature students applications may be considered based on a proven interest in ecology/water management. Entry may be subject to interview.

Course Structure
The course seeks to apply ecological solutions to real world problems such as restoration of damaged habitats and ecosystems, protected area management, biodiversity conservation, flood mitigation and control and invasive species management.
Career Options | Progression
Holders of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Applied Ecology may progress to further studies at Institutes of Technology/Universities (e.g. in the field of Environmental Science or Applied Biosciences). Alternatively, you may directly enter employment in fields such as forestry, fisheries, park management, water resource management, agriculture etc.
