Course details

If you can stand in front of an audience and make them laugh you can give an amazing presentation. A comedian needs to able to relax an audience, be liked and be interesting. This is exactly what you need to do in a presentation or an interview. You’ll learn to present yourself well, how to be relaxed on stage, how to develop material and conquer your fears so you can express your own unique sense of humour on stage and make people laugh. The course culminates with your performance of original material to a live audience in a comedy club. You will leave the stage with an amazing natural high and an inner confidence which will be with you for life.

Participants of Stand Up Comedy can expect to:

  • learn how to be comfortable on stage
  • discover how to foster audience rapport
  • understand how to make your audience laugh (whether audience is one person or a thousand people)
  • learn how to relax and lead an audience
  • learn how to be likeable on stage
  • develop original material
  • learn techniques to deal with stage fright
  • develop storytelling and improvisation skills
  • explore personal psychology and learn how to be in control even when outside your comfort zone.

About Gaiety School of Acting

The Gaiety School of Acting – The National Theatre School of Ireland is a Not for Profit organisation founded in 1986 by the internationally renowned theatre director Joe Dowling, in response to the lack of full time actor training programmes in Ireland at that time. The school is now widely regarded as the country’s premier training facility for actors.

Their policy is to train actors for theatre, film and television. The school offers a two-year intensive acting programme and an extensive selection of part-time and tailored cTheirses for adults, teenagers, children and overseas students.The school has been providing professional actor training for almost 30 years and include Colin Farrell, Olivia Wilde, Colin O’Donoghue, Aidan Turner (Best Male Newcomer, Jameson Empire Awards 2014), Eva Birthistle (Best Actress Lead Television Award, IFTA 2014) Charlie Murphy (Best Actress, The Irish Times Awards 2013) and Sarah Greene (Tony Award Nominee 2014) as alumni of distinction.
