The main aim of the ITEC Level 5 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy has been designed to provide experienced Practitioners currently working in sport and active leisure, including Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Sports Massage practitioners with the requisite understanding and complex skills and techniques to work as an Advanced Sports Massage Practitioner. Advanced Practitioners will be equipped to work with clientele ranging from recreational sport and active leisure enthusiasts to professional sports persons and elite athletes.
Throughout this qualification, Practitioners will develop an advanced understanding of the biological basis for complex massage/soft tissue methods will also be evaluated as will research undertaken on the use of these methods in sport and active leisure.
Practitioners will develop the understanding and skills to carry out and analyse comprehensive subjective assessments of clients. Practitioners will undertake detailed bio mechanical assessments, test and analyse the integrity of the evidence-based research. Practitioners will also develop the understanding and skills to prepare, apply and evaluate a range of complex sports massage/soft tissue methods to prevent and manage injury.

Entry Requirements
Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. It is recommended that Learners should have achieved a level of education equivalent to a Level 4 qualification in Sports Massage prior to commencing the ITEC Level 5 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy. Learners must also be in possession or working towards a recognised Emergency First Responder Aid or Occupational First Aid Certificate at the time of certification.
