Course details

Sports Injuries and Therapy 2 provides the students with the knowledge and skills to treat non-pathological and pathological sports injuries. Graduates of the course are fully qualified to work as Sports Injury Therapists. It also includes the whole area of sports/industry awareness. Students are successful in gaining places on Physiotherapy and other related Degree courses in the UK.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

ITEC (UK) Level 3 Certificate Sports Massage Therapy/Holistic massage and QQI Level 5-FETAC Level 5 Sports, Recreation and Exercise Award or other equivalent qualification. Occupational First Aid or Equivalent.

Sports Therapy Equipment

This purpose of this specialist qualification is to provide practitioners with the knowledge, skills and competence to provide treatments using specialised electrical equipment.

Practical Anatomy and Physiology for Sports MassageStudents will acquire advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology and psychology relevant to massage methods used to prevent and manage injuries. They will develop an understanding of the relevance of nutrition and hydration as a preventative and rehabilitative strategy.

Applying Massage Methods to Prevent and Manage Injury

Students will be provided with advanced palpation skills, be able to analyse posture and range of movement, employ massage techniques to prevent and manage injury and evaluate massage strategies.

On Site Massage

To provide the learner with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to demonstrate a range of massage treatments efficiently and effectively to the standard required, taking full responsibility and operating autonomously.

Sports Industry Practice

This provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence in the legislation, guidelines and practices relevant to a range of contexts in the sports industry.

Sports Psychology

To develop an understanding of the key psychological factors that influence participation and performance in sport.

Sports Nutrition

This provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence in the concepts and principles underpinning nutrition, energy sources and energy usage within an active, living, exercise, sport and weight management context.

Safety Management

This provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to design safety and risk management strategies, supervise implement and evaluate workplace safety policies.

Customer Service

This provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to direct quality customer service within a work, social or voluntary environment, independently and/or in a supervisory capacity.

Work Experience

This provides the learner with a comprehensive range of skills with detailed theoretical understanding of a general supervisory nature of the work placement in a specific vocational area.

Sports Injuries Therapist to work in Gyms, Health Clubs, Sporting organisations, or self-employment.
