Module 1: The SHEQ Management System
Module 1 covers the framework of SHEQ management systems, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 relative to Annex SL, which is the standard for developing management systems, further contextualised for your organisation or industry sector, and supplemented by the NOSA Five Star Integrated System. This module provides the learner with a better understanding of the content that will be presented in Modules 2, 3 and 4.
Module 2: Applied Operational Process Mapping for the SHEQ Management System
Module 2 covers the integrated nature of key processes in an organisation. The learner is coached through process modelling to develop an understanding of the different inputs and controls for each process step, facilitating an effective risk assessment for individual tasks. A list of key processes allows the learner to identify critical tasks that need specific interventions in order to be controlled effectively.
Module 3: Improve the Effectiveness and Efficiency of the SHEQ Management System
This module focuses on improving the SHEQ management system through, for example, improved hazard identification, risk assessment and controls.
Module 4: Implementing the SHEQ Management System as an Operational Plan
This module provides a comprehensive overview that will assist the learner to develop, implement and evaluate an operational plan for the SHEQ management system. In addition to the developmental skills required to monitor, observe, inspect and audit, to accurately report on the effectiveness of the SHEQ management system.
The practical application, through the provided software, includes closing out of reported non-conformances and as ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Additionally, this module teaches corrective actions that follow incident investigations or complaints, as well as compliance to a company-specific SHEQ management system and the identified HSE legal constraints (as adopted by international standards), such as planned task observations based on work instructions or safe work method statements.
Module 5: Module 5: HSE Ethics in the SHEQ Management System
Module 5 focuses on ethics in HSE. As the importance of HSE services increases over time, the question of ethical behaviour needs to be answered. HSE managers, as an extension of the CEO's fiduciary duty of care, need to execute their roles ethically in order to be accepted as true professionals. This module provides the framework for ethical behaviour in the SHEQ management system context.
Module 6: Worplace Risk Assessment and Control in an Effective Management System
This module is based on the methodology of workplace risk assessment and control (WRAC). This module applies the content from Module 2, to assess the risks and consequences of critical tasks, and to decide on appropriate mitigation strategies to control risks to as low a level as is reasonably practical (ALARP), to create a company's baseline risk register. It takes the form of facilitated practical work using the electronic tools provided for the course.
Module 7: Individual Assignment
Submitted in partial completion of the qualification, each learner will submit an individual assignment supported by five spaced-out collaboration days facilitated by an HSE industry expert. The learner will make use of the course content and tools provided to create a company, or an industry-specific SHEQ management system. The learner will have two months to complete the assignment, with ongoing support throughout the self-study process.
A learner will be declared competent on the assessment of a company or industry SHEQ management system, which demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the methodologies presented, including a documented HSE system, document library, and supporting records.
