The purpose of this award is to enable the learner acquire the knowledge, skill and competence to deliver high quality information advice and advocacy services to a range of service users, and or to transfer or progress to programmes leading to awards in higher education and training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A QQI Level 5-FETAC Level 5 or equivalent combined with an interest and or experience working in an advocacy area. All applicants are interviewed and places are awarded on suitability.

COURSE CONTENT

The following subjects may be offered:

Government, Social and Public Administration

This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to support service users to access government, social and public services.

Social and Civil Information

This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to provide social and civil information to service users in a variety of contexts.

Information, Advice and Advocacy

This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, interpersonal and technology skills to competently deliver information, advice and advocacy service in the community.

Leadership

This programme module will equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to skilfully lead other people in work-related tasks and activities, in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Work Experience

This programme will provide a learner with a comprehensive range of skills with detailed theoretical understanding of a general supervisory nature of the work placement in a specific vocational area.

Conflict Management

This module facilitates learners in developing a general understanding of the Irish legal system.

Conflict Management

This programme module aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence required to critically engage with the theory and practice of conflict management in community settings.

Disability Advocacy

  • The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge,
  • skill and competence to support service users with a disability to access
  • rights, entitlements and services.

Supervisory Skills

This programme module aims to enable the learner to competently undertake a supervisory role in a range of organisations and vocational contexts.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This course offers the opportunities to work in organisations that provide information, advice and advocacy services in the Social and Health Service area. It also provides the opportunity to work in a supervisory role in organisations such as a Youth Information Service, a Disability Advocacy/Support Service and a Citizens Information Service.
