Course details

The Social Media Manager Training Program by Martin Brossman & Associates, was developed by Anora McGaha and Martin Brossman and is based on three years of managing ongoing social media programs with small businesses. It includes 6 hours of video training in 13 modules.

Each module includes a short Table Talk discussion between Martin and Anora, and from 1 - 4 video trainings per module. There is an outline for the modules as well as recommended readings and exercises for most. Their Social Media for Business book is used for reading during this course. Exercises recommend using live companies to work with, or your own business.

The Social Media Manager Training Program focuses on how to manage a social media program from a Discovery meeting with a client, learning about their business through:

  • Strategy
  • Research
  • Plan Development
  • Maintaining the Monthly Program
  • Content Development
  • Metrics and Evaluation
  • Challenges
  • Monitoring
  • Social Media Policy, and
  • Managing Client Relations

This training program does not include is the fundamentals of social media at a beginning, intermediate and advanced level. Martin Brossman & Associates has a 9 hour course for each of the three levels, Beginning Social Media for Business; Intermediate Social Media for Business and Advanced Social Media for Business, which will give you the full reach of tools, problem solving strategies, and knowledge to make full use of the Social Media Manager Training Program.

Beginning --> Intermediate --> Advanced --> Social Media Manager Training Program --> Supervised Practicum --> Demonstrated Competence --> Certification

Anyone can take the Social Media Manager Training Program, but to be able to step out into the world as a Social Media Manager will take more than the training program. It will take hands on experience in all aspects of social media management, including managing a full program of at least one business or non-profit.

Martin Brossman & Associates is working on a certification program whereby you can get supervised experience setting up and managing a social media program, in addition to this training, to provide additional qualifications for work as a social media manager.

About certification. Although social media platforms are changing constantly, still there are core business and ethical princples, research and content development methods, problem solving strategies and ways to understand and manage your employer or clients that do not change as much. 

What is a social media manager? Every business will define a social media manager differently. Their scope of responsibility, their skill depth and breadth, will not be the same from one business to the next. So we are taking the high road and presenting the training program from the perspective of managing a full social media program specifically for a small business. If you were a contract social media manager your customers would have a budget starting at $500 a month, and preferrable $1500 or higher to really reap the benefits.
