Why study this course at this institution?
The “Smart City” diploma is based on three core ideas: communication, integration, and cooperation. In addition, it involves the communication between government institutions, residents, tourists and private institutions.
Who is this course for?
This Professional Diploma has been created for innovative leaders to foster specialized skills in various areas of “Smart Cities” such as security and safety, transportation, communication, energy, water and environment, economic services, infrastructure, and urban planning.
What will I learn?
The Professional Diploma consists of the following three day's workshops. The indicated schedule is tentative and will be adjusted to suit participants.
WORKSHOP 1
Cities of the Future 17 - 19 November 2014: Workshop devoted to analyze the different present views and definitions of a “Smart City” where the use of technologies plays a fundamental role in the Smartness concept.
WORKSHOP 2
Creating Smart City Departments 22 - 24 December 2014: Workshop devoted to analyze how forthcoming City departments should be de¬fined and deployed in order to interact in a connected way depending on the near, medium and long term City goals.
WORKSHOP 3
Communication, Integration, Cooperation 12 - 14 January 2015: Workshop devoted to understand how sharing information and collaborating between city departments can create value for Dubai.
WORKSHOP 4
Urban Design & Planning 16 - 18 February 2015: Workshop devoted to understanding the contributions that address city needs and challenges as a mean to develop urban environments that potentially offer sustainable solutions and opportunities to fulfill the needs of its citizens and the economic, environmental and social trends.
WORKSHOP 5
Environment & Sustainability 16 - 18 March 2015: Workshop devoted to introduce the main environmental issues on an urban scale, serving as a starting point to debate strategic approaches to solve them, especially those threats to present or future human well-being and the global environment.
WORKSHOP 6
Society & Governance 13 - 15 April 2015: Workshop devoted to how cities can meet the challenges of a cohesive and supportive society with a clear identity adapted to technological innovations, sustainability, well-governed (with efficiency and justice), and based on a participatory democracy.
WORKSHOP 7
Economy & Business 4 - 6 May 2015: Workshop devoted to cover the analysis, organization, and development of public-private cluster initiatives especially in 3 topics: city financials, regional/cluster economics and business practice.
FINAL ASSESMENT WORKSHOP
25 - 27 May 2015: This is the opportunity for the participants to work together on a smart project over the duration of the diploma. The objective is to propose “value creation projects” across city departments; i.e. integrating operations and information from multiple departments in order to create a Smart Integrated Project.
How will I benefit from taking this course/What career paths will be open to me?
This professional diploma is split into seven workshops and one assessment workshop. After completing the “Smart City” professional diploma at RIT Dubai, each participant will:
• Understand the concept of "Smart Cities" • Be able to support world class “Smart City” projects in all participating organizations • Work in synergy with other Dubai city departments to develop coordination and cooperation on “Smart Initiatives” • Evaluate proposals done by “smart” software or hardware vendors • Be able to create and supervise innovative smart city projects for Dubai
