Course details

The focus of the training will be to provide trainees with a working knowledge of the test procedures that allow correct diagnosis of system and circuit faults. The underpinning theory and practical exercises will provide trainees with a sound foundation understanding of auto electrical principles and fundamental test procedures using digital multi meters.

Course Content:

• The electrical values
• Electrical measurement
• Identification of typical circuit symbols and use of wiring diagrams
• Test methods for circuit Continuity, Insulation and Resistance
• Electrical properties and the testing of series and parallel circuits
• Battery and Energy systems operation, testing and diagnosis
• Test methods for circuits using voltage drop measurement

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this training course (VSE 1) trainees will be able to:

• Refer to a typical system wiring diagram, identify the electrical components and the current paths connecting them to the control unit(s) of the system
• Understand the important electrical test procedures for the electrical systems on a typical vehicle
• Carry out correct test procedures using voltage, resistance current and voltage drop measurements to determine circuit condition and identify faults which may be present in vehicle system circuits.
