Diploma in Materials Science Republic Polytechnic
Price: SGD 2,500
  • Duration: Upto 3 Years

Course details

The world will ALWAYS need materials. Whether you are building the next tablet computer, creating a new musical instrument, or making a robot as intelligent as Iron Man, you will always need materials knowledge to select the right ingredients and components.

Ever wondered why mobile phone screens are scratch-proof?

Will instruments made of brass withstand rust better than steel flutes?

Why Iron Man possesses powered armor that gives him superhuman strength and durability, flight, and an array of weapons?

Materials science affects everything around us, from the vehicles that we travel in and the clothes that we wear to the phones that we use to connect to our friends.

The Diploma in Materials Science (DMTS) will take you on a journey to discover the world at its most basic level. Humans have been modifying materials since the beginning of civilisation. Through the DMTS, you will gain a wealth of knowledge in areas ranging from nanotechnology to forensic science that is applicable to the latest products and materials, including biomedical and aircraft materials.

Hands-on training in our first-rate laboratories will allow you to develop skills and practice techniques using advanced equipment.

In addition, industry attachments at both private and public organisations will allow you to participate in cutting-edge research and gain valuable real-world experience.

Course Outcomes

  • Explore the world at the atomic, molecular, crystalline, microscopic, and macroscopic levels
  • Learn to use advanced characterisation equipment and processing techniques in RP’s state-of-the-art laboratories
  • Develop advanced skills and learn techniques that will allow you to understand and manipulate the unique characteristics of different materials
