Course details
This module is designed to enhance skills in buying merchandise for retail. The key focus is on Consumer- Centric Buying and Relevancy to Market Merchandising Concepts. The course will enable participants to forecast accurately the needs of their customers and maximise customers’ satisfaction with the appropriate merchandise. Participants will learn to mix the store’s merchandise to appeal to their customers. Even with sophisticated technology available to the retailers, the high level of purchasing decisions and tasks to be performed requires a great deal of experience and relevant knowledge.
This unit is delivered through lectures, questions and answers, case studies, presentations, group discussions, demonstrations and hands-on activities.

- A practical approach to purchasing for executives within a retail environment.
- Planning, execution and evaluation of purchases to meet consumer needs in a highly dynamic retail setting.

- An entrepreneurial view of purchasing to maximise corporate productivity.
- Benchmark from best practice in retail buying and merchandising management.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level passes including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:
- 75% attendance rate
- Assessed to be competent in given competency standard
CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE
Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
