Interviews are one of the most basic forms of journalism and a vital component in news gathering. As one of the most integral skills required for the job, journalists conduct interviews as a means to obtain valuable information and statements relevant to a news story. As such, journalists planning an interview should always be prepared, in order to effectively create a story around the interview.
This unit provides participants with the skills to conduct interviews for a variety of broadcast news stories. Participants will acquire useful skills needed in conducting effective interviews, including tasks such as planning, conducting and recording interviews. The unit also prepares participants on how to conduct impromptu interviews.
