WSQ Calculate Cost of Material and Apparel for Textile and Fashion Industry Central

Course details

This module provides occupational knowledge and skills of the various techniques and concepts in material and apparel cost computations that are widely used in the fashion industry.

It covers fabric costing, fabric consumption calculation and apparel costing. This fundamental knowledge will enable the entrepreneur, designer, merchandiser or marketing personnel to compute cost based on given sketches or samples. Understanding the various components costs, the designer could estimate the commercial viability of his/her design; the product development executive could apply the various alternatives to fulfill the design/collection; the merchandiser could be a more effective negotiator with the suppliers or manufacturers; the marketing personnel could provide quotations on the spot.

This unit is delivered through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on activities.

OBJECTIVES

• Identify the various factors affecting fabric costs based on the industry norms.
• Compute estimated fabric consumption based on given specs and sketch without the use of marker based on the industry norms.
• Identify other components that affect apparel costs according to organisational procedure.
• Estimate other additional process cost like embroidery, panel printing and wet processing cost according to organisational procedure.
• Analyse and propose alternatives to reduce apparel costs according to organisational policy and procedure.
• Compute the final apparel costs according to organisational procedure.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Possess at least 3 GCE “O” level passes including English and Mathematics or ES WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) level 5 and above.

Student needs prior knowledge / experience of following modules

• WSQ Identify and Analyse Textiles and Process
• WSQ Analyze Garment Construction
• WSQ Interpret Pattern Draft and Sewing Sequence of Apparel

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:

• 75% attendance rate
• Assessed to be competent in given competency standard

CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE

Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
