Course details

This training provides an understanding on the anatomy of leather, its source, grades, tanning process from raw hide to finished leather and how to differentiate it from synthetics. Participants will learn the characteristics of different types of leather and their impact on the manufacturing process of the various types of shoe constructions. They will also conduct a risk analysis of selected leather for a specific design and construction, and provide recommendations for alternatives when needed.

OBJECTIVES

• Identify and analyse different materials and leather types
• Compare the differences between genuine leather and synthetic
• Apply the various footwear materials used for upper, bottom and lining
• Determine the material suitability for different types of shoes and different footwear manufacturing processes
• Conduct a risk analysis of selected leather used for selected footwear and provide recommendations for alternatives

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Preferably possess 3 GCE ‘O’ level qualification with passes in English and Math or ESS WSQ Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 5 and above.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Participant will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA) provided he/she meets the following requirements:

• 75% attendance rate
• Assessed to be competent in given competency standard

CERTIFICATE ISSUANCE

Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
