The course aims to provide participants with an overview of the tools and conceptual frameworks related to urban solid waste management.

Course Synopsis & Methodology

The topics include:

• Environmental protection and management in Singapore
• Integrated solid waste management system
• Waste minimisation and recycling in Singapore
• Control and management of hazardous substances and toxic wastes
• Legislation and enforcement policies of the National Environment Agency (NEA)
• Public cleansing and environmental sanitation
• Environmental impact assessment
• Investigation of soil and groundwater contamination

Participant Profile

• Mid to senior level government Officials (Directors/Deputy Directors/Heads of Department) with at least 2 years working experience in policymaking for sustainability and environmental excellence or related fields

Eligibilty

Applicants for SCP training programmes should satisfy the following criteria: 

• Mid- to senior level officials, unless otherwise stated
• Nominated by their respective Governments or National Focal Points for Technical Assistance
• Suitably qualified to attend the training programme, as assessed by the training agency
• Proficient in English, i.e. have a good command of spoken and written English (Please note that there will be no interpreters on hand during the training)
• In good health and medically fit to complete the course
• Be able to attend the training programme from the start date to the end date
