Synopsis
This course is designed for Spatial Design managers/executives/designers, showroom decorators, display artists, furniture designers and suppliers, and real estate executives to understand and apply the various strategies and aspects of small space design.
Latest statistics from the Authority and real estate companies showed that "shoebox" apartments - or units smaller than 50 sq m - made up 27 per cent of sales in the property market of Singapore in 2012, a new high since such units were made available in the market three years ago, according to analysts. As more and more units obatin their TOP in recent years, owners and designers are facing the challenges of adapting and designing these units to suit the new lifestyle of living in a small space.
The program focuses on the use of various aspects of interior spatial design to achieve flexibility and versatility in small space design. The participants will learn how to use various strategies to turn passive spaces into active and usable space, and also to rethink traditional notions of spatial division and achieve multiple usages of small spaces in a way that allows flexibility, experimentation and play. Useful guidelines are given to build confidence and encourage the freedom to find new innovative solutions and applications through the following strategies:
Spatial Design to maximise small spaces
Lighting to create spaciousness
Furniture and fit-out for flexibility
The use of colour in small space
Structural Elements, small changes with big impact
Particular emphasis is given to underlying design approaches, philosophies, constraints, influences and areas of innovation for small space design.
The course will help owners, designers and real estate marketing executives to allay fears of usability of shoebox units and be able to achieve the desired lifestyle within limited spaces.
