Course details

A social enterprise is, like a normal business structure, created to generate profits for the organisation. However, unlike a traditional company, it seeks to address certain social issue with extraordinary ideas and solutions.

Although this concept has been around since the 1980s, it has only received wider acceptance in the past 5 years due to education and increased awareness of the social problems by the millennial generation.

Currently, support from government and mulitnational corporations around the world have been very encouraging towards this new model of doing business. It was evident and even more widely adopted after Obama signed into law the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in April 2009. This Act established the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), which provide grants of up to $5 million for intermediaries to match funds, dollar for dollar.

What will be covered:

  • Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship in Singapore
  • Types of Social Enterprises
  • Social problems and benefits enterprise can bring
  • Creative Thinking for Innovation
  • Funding a Social Enterprise
  • Digital Marketing & Story Telling
