    Course details

    This is an introduction to the basic techniques and skills in sculpture, which allows students to learn hands on skills of carving and modelling in sculpture. Construction methods and fabrication processes like wire armature construction and mould making techniques are essential components in this course. Students will acquire basic sculptural visual language of form and space through these practices. They will have the opportunity to learn the basic sculpturing techniques and processes through a series of lectures, demonstrations and studio practices. Class critiques and discussions will be conducted after every class exercise to help clarify, develop and expand on the skill and knowledge acquired.

    Terms and conditions

    • Students will be presented a Certificate upon successful completion of all 4 short courses and passing all required assessment.

    COURSE MODULES

    Sculpture 1 - Making a sculpture relief 

    This course teaches students how to model the clay relief through design reference or drawing and making a plaster waste mould.

    Sculpture 2 - Sculpting the human head 

    This course helps students to understand the human skull. There will be clay modeling practice by analysing the form through comparative proportions, planar and line relationships.

    Sculpture 3 - Sculpting the human torso 

    This course is an introduction to the anatomy of human body. Students will learn to build the clay mass and hollow out of clay work.

    Sculpture 4 - Basic Carving technique 

    This course is an introduction to abstract sculpture and making of clay marquettes. Students will learn to prepare plaster block and plaster carving practice. There will be a final polishing and mounting on base.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must be 17 years old & above.

    Prerequisites for registration of short courses

    • For Sculpture 2, applicants need to complete Sculpture 1 (within a year)
    • For Sculpture 3, applicants need to complete Sculpture 1 & 2 (within a year)
    • For Sculpture 4, applicants need to complete Sculpture 1, 2 & 3 (within a year)
