Course details
All Coursework M.A. students take ten (10) modules (or courses) to fulfill graduation requirements. We offer a wide range of module options, including our regular graduate modules (level 5000 and 6000), recognised graduate modules in other departments, and our challenging undergraduate Honours modules (level 4000). You may also pursue your own research interests by arranging an Independent Study module (ISM) with one of our professors.
Selected students are also eligible to undertake more extended research through two special options available only to our Coursework M.A. students:
The Supervised Research Project (SE5201), equivalent to two modules, culminates in a thesis-length research paper.
The NUS-ANU Joint Masters Degree in Southeast Asian Studies sends students overseas to complete two (2) modules at the Australian National University. They also undertake a research project that is equivalent to four (4) modules.
To accommodate the needs of working students, our Coursework classes are held in the evenings, with each module meeting once a week for a 3-hour session. Those committing to full-time study typically complete their degree requirements within one academic year, but locally based students also have the option of enrolling on a part-time basis.
