Course details

The Korean Basic Course is designed to provide students with basic communication skills in the Korean language. The course aims to foster the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing with related content.

Course Syllabus/Content

Basic 1

  • A brief introduction of Han-Geul and Korean culture
  • Greetings and meeting people
  • Korean alphabet writing system and pronunciation
  • Introducing oneself and asking for one’s name
  • Asking the name of things
  • Ordering in a cafeteria
  • Talking about the location of a person and a building
  • Telling the time
  • Numbers Sino numbers and Korean pure numbers

Admission Requirements

As this is a beginner’s course, no previous knowledge of Korean is required.

Basic 2

  • Telling the time, date, days and months
  • Talking about daily routines
  • Talking about past events
  • Expressing negation
  • Asking for and giving locations
  • Giving the purpose of visit
  • Talking about transportation
  • Talking about how to get to somewhere
  • Making suggestion
  • Expressing prohibitions

Admission Requirements

  • Completed Basic 1 or equivalent

Basic 3

  • Talking about future plans
  • Talking about possibility or ability
  • Suggesting, accepting, refusing
  • Buying vegetables or fruits/electronic appliances/clothes
  • Asking how someone is
  • Asking someone where he/she hurts
  • Giving advice
  • Talking about what you can do
  • Talking about obligation
  • Reading and writing letters
  • Talking about free time activities/sports/obligation

  • Making an appointment
  • Expressing what one wants to do
  • Talking about what one cannot or could not do
  • Giving causes and reasons
  • Telling purposes and results
  • Positive and negative expressions
  • Polite requests
  • Inquiring about houses
  • Talking about descriptions
  • The comparative and superlative
