The ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable candidates
to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide Hairdressing services.
Course Pre-requisite: GCE 'N' level or equivalent, 16 years and above/ adult returners with experience at the workplace
Language Proficiency: GCE 'N' level or equivalent

Mandadatory Units
- Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp
- Cut women's Hair
- The Art of Dressing Hair
- Colour and Lighten Hair
- Client Consultation for Hair Services
- Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
- Salon Reception Duties
- Display Stock to Promote Sales in a Salon
- Working in the Hair Industry
Optional Units
- Perm and Neutralise Hair
- Create an Image Based on Theme within the Hair and Beauty sector
- Provide Scalp Massage Service
- Working with others in the Hair and Beauty Sactor
it also aims:
- to provide skills at Level 2 for those interested in the hairdressing industry
- to provide opportunities for staff in the hairdressing industry to gain a Level 2 qualification
- to qualify learners as hairdressing at Level 2 in the Hairdressing industry
- to sustain the interest of learners wanting to work in the hairdressing industry
- to encourage knowledge and understanding of the hairdressing industry at Level 2
- to provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major functional skills and the wider functional skills in a hairdressing context , such as communicating with clients , working with others and problem solving
- to provide opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a hairdressing
- The candidate will study the theory and practice of hairdressing service to include
- the 9 mandatory units and 4 optional units.The underpinning knowledge and skills required
- to successfully perform these service is also required.
Assessment
This qualification will be internally and externally assessed using the assessment of skills
as set out below.
Once all practical portfolios of evidence , assignments and underpinning knowledge have
been completed the learner will have a final practical test carried out by the internal assessor
using the ITEC marking criteria and final assessmenr form . An ITEC Exrenal Verifier will verify
all practical portfolios of evidence and assignments and verify a minimum 10% sample of candidates
being assessed across the range of skills alongside the Lecturer / Intercal Assessor
Grading of the qualification
- it is the aggregate mark of the final practical test using the specific mandatory units and the multiple choice question theory paper that fprms the overall grade of the qualification
- The final practical test is graded pass , merit or distinction
- The multiple choice question theory paper is graded pass, merit or distinction
- Assigments are graded pass or refer
- If a learner is unsuccessful in any area , they will be reassessed only in the unit where they have no achicved a pass grade
- Referrals should be completed within one year of the original assessment / observation , assignment and / or multiple choice theory tests have been allocated a pass grade
- Learners must completea portfolio of performance evidence and achieve a pass grade in all assignment (where applicable) ot Multiple Choice Question ( MCQ) for the underpinning knowledge before talking the final practical test to achieve the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing ( see assessment table above)
