Workplace Literacy (Conversational) is designed to equip learners with the ability to listen, speak and read English in daily context, providing them with a range of portable skills and knowledge essential for work and self-sufficiency.

The programme includes Reading, Listening and Speaking.

Beginner 

This programme provides a basic foundation for beginning learners to converse easily in simple English in a variety of situations. It provides many interesting dialogues of various topics for participants to practise listening, speaking and reading. The dialogues are uniquely designed with varying degree of difficulty, in order to meet the different competency level of all learners in a typical Beginners class.

Although this course is suitable for those who have little or no knowledge of English, it is also useful for those who have taken any of the 2 Comprehensive modules for Beginners.

Intermediate

This programme provides learners with the ability to understand routine work-related conversations. They will be able to handle work that involves following oral and simple written instructions and interact with the public. Participants will also be able to perform reading and writing tasks, such as most logs, reports, forms etc., with reasonable accuracy to meet work needs. 

Advanced

This course is designed for those who want to communicate fluently and confidently in a wide range of social and familiar work situations. Learners will be trained to participate effectively in practical and social conversations as well as carry out technical discussions in their own field. They will be able to meet work demands with confidence, interact with the public and follow instructions, such as in work manuals.  

Mode of Delivery: 

The programme is designed in an interactive and participative manner, with an application-based approach towards learning. Different learning methodologies such as lectures, pair work, role plays, group activities, presentations, listening exercises, quizzes, and experiential learning are used the programme. Learners will also be trained to respond with greater spontaneity and depth to the various workplace settings.

Assessment & Examination:

The WSQ programs are mainly assessment based via projects and assignments. Learners are required to do formative assessment during class and end of class summative assessment. The assessment plans are pre-approved by the QAD of WDA before implementation. If a student’s attendance fail to meet the minimum requirements stipulated by WDA (75%), the student is be debarred from assessments.

The tests for Reading and Listening are computer adaptive and the test for Speaking is computer based. All tests are designed and managed by WDA.
