Course details

This course focuses on best practices and methodologies applicable to building and managing start-ups, implementation of lean organisational structures and agile management processes and reporting systems. During the course, Students will apply key start-up management concepts and methodologies via structured case studies. By the end of the course, Students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to the case study of their own company in order to improve existing processes and enhance performance.

This course provides students with practical knowledge and skills to turn start-ups into profitable businesses by applying proven management practices designed by successful entrepreneurs. Students will have the opportunity to gain invaluable insights into the following value-added topics: selecting optimal organisation structures, steps to establish agile teams, ensuring profitability and scalability of a start-up business, and essentials of effective fundraising.

Course Modules

The module covers the following topics:

  • Organisational Structure and KPIs: Evaluate different types of organisational structure that would support businesses based on size, volume and complexity; and identify structures that support business model for B2B, B2C and B2B2C type of businesses.
  • Agile Start-up Culture and Leadership: Focus on the establishment of a solid organisational culture and how to develop leadership and talents using agile methodologies.
  • Business Profitability and Scalability: Identify the factors that determine profitability, develop effective profitability strategies for the company, determine areas of financial strategy that needs improvement, and ensure that the company's business model has potential for continuous growth.
  • Fundraising: Effectively approach start-up fundraising phases in line with the developmental phases of the business plan, from initial product to development to ongoing operations and continued innovation.
  • Management Reporting: Provide reliable and trustworthy information on the organisation's performance for internal and external stakeholders, including the following: growth, margins, efficiency, liquidity, outcome cost-effectiveness, costs, and quality. Special focus on how to create management reports that meet the requirements of users.

Delivery Schedule

  • The course is delivered employing a flipped classroom methodology whereby students have access to e-learning materials through a LMS to revise key concepts and materials before attending the workshop sessions.
  • The instructional design of the face-to-face sessions includes interactive workshops, case study exercises, group presentations, and guided discussions.
  • Online collaborative learning takes the form of guided Q&A and discussions moderated by the lecturer and/or a trained tutor.

Delivery Method

Students will be trained by industry professionals with minimum 5 years of domain experience. The background of trainers ensures that they can add value to the course by sharing expert industry insights. Trainers also have teaching experience and have been trained to conduct engaging sessions.

This course is delivered by Lithan Hall Academy, Singapore, through a flipped classroom methodology comprising:

  • Online learning where students review concepts and engage in peer to peer moderated discussions and
  • Active and highly interactive workshop sessions where students work on applying the learned concepts and methodologies to real-life case studies. The learning process is enhanced by constant peer-to-peer collaborative learning.

By the end of the course, students have not only acquired practical skills ready to be deployed in their job roles, but also a network of like-minded entrepreneurial professionals.

Entry Requirements

  • Students must have minimum a diploma qualification and minimum 5 years of working experience.
  • Students must have a good command of the English language equivalent to IELTS 6.
  • Students with an undergraduate qualification taught in English meet the language requirements of the course.

Certificates Issued

Upon successful completion of this module students will be issued with following SOAs:

  • IT-GSM-501S-1 Use information to make sales and marketing-related decisions
  • BM-FIN-407E-1 Conduct financial analysis of the business unit

Graduation requirement

Students will be graded "Competent" (C) or "Not Yet Competent" (NYC). Students graded "Competent" (C)" will be awarded a Statement of Attainment (SOA).
