Wanting to write, but not sure how to start? Stuck in a rut where your writing is concerned? In short, wondering where your creativity has disappeared to or whether you had any creativity in the first place?
Relax! Catalyst is here to inspire you! Established local theatre actor, director and writer Verena Tay will help you perceive the world around you and the objects that surround you in a new fashion so as to fuel your creativity and give impetus to new writing. Whether you are a new or seasoned writer, Catalyst will stimulate your senses and spur you to write text infused with unexpected textures to grab the imagination of your readers.
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
Learn the process of drawing inspiration from the environment and objects found around oneself to write creatively
Write creatively based on your inspirations

Verena Tay
A Singaporean theatre actor, director and writer for over 25 years, Verena Tay has published three collections of plays: In the Company of Women (SNP Editions, 2004), In the Company of Heroes and Victimology (both by Math Paper Press, 2011). An Honorary Fellow at the International Writing Program, University of Iowa (AugNov 2007), she now focuses on writing fiction and is studying part-time for an MFA in Creative Writing (City University of Hong Kong, 201214). Spectre: Stories from Dark to Light (Math Paper Press, 2012) is her first collection of short stories. She has also edited two anthologies of short stories: Balik Kampung (Math Paper Press, 2012) and A Monsoon Feast (DFP Productions/Monsoon Books, 2012). Capability Development Grant
The Capability Development Grant is open to individuals and organisations who have a strong track record of involvement in the arts at a professional level, and is able to demonstrate commitment to the long-term development of the arts in Singapore.
Minimum Maximum Number of Participants: 10 30 pax
Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation of workshop, two weeks before the workshop date.
All ALAP workshops serve tea-breaks and provide course handouts.
Cancellation & Substitution
Fees paid are non-refundable but transferable. Fees will be refunded in the event of a cancellation of workshop if participant wishes not to transfer the fees which have been paid to another workshop Requests for cancellation must be made two weeks before the workshop date. A cancellation charge of 50% of the full course fee will be applicable for requests made later than two weeks before the workshop date. Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the registration procedures and accepted the terms contained therein.
