Course details
The Theatre Diploma is a practice-focussed course offering training in the key areas of performing. These key areas include: Acting, Voice, and Movement for actors. The practical nature of the course is augmented by modules that cover a wide range of related knowledge such as Theatre Appreciation, Technical Theatre, Drama education, as well as modules that offer students the opportunity to develop skills and understanding from a wide range of contemporary and traditional theatre/performance forms such as Asian Dance.
The aims of this course are to provide students with:
- Professional competence in Acting
- Foundational understanding of technical elements of Theatre and Design for Performance
- An appreciation of the historical, cultural and social significance of Theatre both locally and Internationally
- An understanding of the planning, process and implementation of drama education (teaching drama in schools
Learning Outcomes
- Perform in a wide variety of contexts and styles in both live and recorded media
- Demonstrate skills in the technical/design preparation and execution of a theatre performance
- Articulate a thorough understanding of the history/context of local and international theatre styles, conventions and practices
- Engage critically as an audience member
- Teach drama at foundational level
- Converse and engage with directors and producers
- Display an all-round, mature and critical approach to the craft of making theatre
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively

NAFA hopes to attract applicants with the potential to become excellent arts practitioners. Applicants are selected by merit, based on the following criteria:

- Educational Qualification
- Language Proficiency
- Special Factor in recognition of the applicants’ achievements relevant to the course
Selection is competitive and is subject to the availability of places. However, the Academy may give consideration to talented applicants who excel in Artistic Talent and Creativity, but have not fully met the educational qualifications stated.
