Course details
The Diploma in Operations & Technology aims to provide learners with the skills and knowledge of the latest Business operation practices and critical functional areas of organizations. It seeks to build and develop learners arming them with the ability to put into practice business operations, leadership & management, statistics, finance, managerial economics, procurement, business policy & law.
In a competitive corporate environment, employees are expected to be able to market themselves and to communicate their innovative concepts to the organization. In this Diploma, learners will be coached on public speaking and presentation techniques before course commencement and each learner will be required to make an inpidual 20-minute presentation to a group of lecturers. Marks will be allocated to the presenters as part of the final grade.
Learners will study latest success stories and failures by critically analyzing some of these organizations.

This course serves working employees who wish to have a deeper understanding of the operations of organizations. It is also appropriate for new entrants as this course can provide them a fast track for understanding of the workings of organizations. For employers, this course will also be useful for keeping abreast of latest changes of leadership and management, procurement & supply management, business policy & law, and finance code of practice.
Entry Requirements
- Qualification : Min GCE 3 N Level credit passes with N Level English grade B4 & above/WPL Level 6 & above OR
- Min GCE 3 O Level credit passes with O Level English grade C6 & above/WPL Level 6 & above OR
- Full-time ITE Nitec & above OR
- TLA Cert in Logistics & Freight Forwarding Operations with min N/O Level English at respectively specified grades/IELTS5.5/WPL Level 6 & above
- Work Experience : 1 year
- Admission is solely at the discretion of TLA.

What the Course Covers
OT1001 Business Operations
In this subject, learners will acquire the knowledge of how they as managers plan and execute their strategies in the context of business policies. Learners will learn about the types of business structures, key business processes, technology, JIT & lean operations, quality, productivity, innovation and performance measurement & control.
OT1002 Leadership and Management
The business environment is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. Operating organizations require managers who must exercise leadership. Learners will learn about the difference between leaders and managers and their archetypes and how they can become effective leaders and managers. Topics include leadership and managerial roles, models & styles. Learners' outcome is the in-depth understanding of using leadership and managerial skillsets to lead and manage organizations
OT1003 Statistics
A key competency of executives is analytical skills. Learners will learn the role of information and how it can be used in effective presentation and communication. Learning statistics will help learners to analyze data using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, sampling techniques and regression analysis, to analyze trends and make decisions. Learners will learn how to analyze data and use it for effective decision making.
OT1004 Finance
Learners will acquire the knowledge of financial accounting including bookkeeping, profit & loss statements and balance sheets. The subject will focus on the acquisition of skill to prepare and interpret financial statements and determine the financial health of business organizations. A large percentage of the contact hours will be on interpreting and analyzing financial statements.
OT1005 Managerial Economics
Learners will be able to differentiate between microeconomics and macroeconomics. Learners will position themselves as an inpidual consumer making economic decision and as an informed person making managerial economic decisions for the business organizations. Understanding of fiscal and monetary policy at the broad level and supply & demand at the operational level will be the starting point of how these will impact the learners' organizational business.
OT1006 Procurement & Supply Management
This subject aims to equip learners with the knowledge of skills of procuring supplies. Competencies include procurement techniques, outsourcing, procurement policies, e-procurement, supplier selection & audit, contract management & negotiation, bidding & reverse bidding, and price & cost analysis.
OT1007 Business Policy & Law
This module aims to provide learners with the understanding of legal framework such as laws governing companies and how these govern organizational policies and impact the internal functions and externally international trade. The focus is on the application of contract law.
