Course details

Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to:
- To provide an educational foundation for a range of entry level careers in hospitality;

- To provide fundamental studies directly relevant to vocations and professions in the hospitality sector;

- To enable students to make an immediate contribution in entry level employment in the hospitality sector;

- To provide flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation for career development progression to further studies;

- To develop students' ability in hospitality services through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme;

- To develop a range of competency skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitude essential for successful performance in working life.

Class Size
Class size: Maximum 17 pax per class for practical and tutorial lessons, Maximum 35 pax for lecture
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete all 7 units of this programme will be awarded the Diploma by Beacon International College. This certification allows direct entry into the internationally recognized BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes awarded by Pearson Education (UK).
Certificate of Merit Award
A student who has successfully completed a diploma course may be awarded a Certificate of Merit, provided that the following criteria are fulfilled:
1. At least one (1) subject unit with a Distinction grade AND

2. At least a merit grade using an average mark of the total subject marks in the course, marks for the work based experience project unit, if any, will not be included in the total subject marks.

Top student award
A student awardedthe Certificate of Merit and has the highest total subject marks may be considered for the Top Student Award.
Marks for the work based experience project unit, if any, will not be included in the total subject marks.
Entry Requirements
- GCE 'O' level or 'N' level 3 passes

- Grade 10

- SPM 3 passes

- ITE-Nitec

- SMA

- Chinese Junior Secondary Year 3
- Students with equivalent foreign qualifications may be admitted provided they are proficient in the English Language, and possess
1. IELTS 4.5 or equivalent qualifications AND

2. a Pass in English Proficiency Assessment Test determined by the College
Those who fail the English Proficiency Assessment Test will be required to successfully complete the EAP/ESL (Lower Intermediate) course conducted by college

Placement Test
Students are required to take an in-house English placement test. After the placement test, students will be placed in an English class that is of an appropriate level based on their English needs. Students must pass the ESL Intermediate class to be placed in the Diploma in Hospitality Management Programme.
Lectures/Tutorials
The course is mainly conducted in the classroom via face-to-face learning which encourages student-teacher interaction. Students are encouraged to attend field trips organised by the school to encourage experiential learning.

Assessment
In-course assessments will be conducted only. In-course assessments may include quizzes, class tests, class participation in question and answer sessions, oral presentation, subject assignments including assignment reports, projects and demonstrations where relevant, valid and appropriate.
