Course details

This course is intended to provide the underpinning knowledge to assist personal and professional development towards becoming an informed crewing agent for the recruitment and on-going management of sea going staff.

Course Outline     

  • On successful completion, the participant shall be able to:
  • Conduct an effective interview   
  • Have an overview of the flag state, MLC2006 and STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) requirements  
  • Know the verification process of seafarer documents and certificates  
  • Have an understanding of the immigration requirements 
  • Know the guidelines for employment agreement, welfare and wages  
  • Understand the need for cultural awareness

Course Methodology     

A balanced delivery methodology is planned for the effective conduct if the courses to achieve the desired learning outcome. Group based discussions will be used where necessary, after each lesson to encourage sharing of experiences.

Target Participants    

Crew recruitment, placement agents and those working in the ship manning and training sector.

About Singapore Shipping Association

The SSA started to offer courses to shore-based shipping companies as far back as 1989. Twelve long and short part time vocational courses are currently conducted by full time professionals from the shipping industry. The courses are very well supported by the shipping companies. The Association, through its Executive Development Programme, aims to upgrade the high level of service and professionalism of shipping staff to enhance Singapore's competitiveness as an International Maritime Centre.
