OVERVIEW OF COMPETENCY BASED INTERVIEW & SELECTION TECHNIQUES

Interview has always played a significant part in employee selection. It is used by both human resources specialists and line managers, either as the sole method of selection or in conjunction with other types of assessment. Traditional hiring methods focus on education, qualifications and credentials, and elicit responses that address credentials, opinions and feelings. Competency based behavioural interviews, on the other hand, are based on the idea that past behaviour is the best predictor of future behaviour. Prior to interview, each position is assessed for the skills/ competencies and characteristics that relate to job success. Interview questions are developed to probe into these areas.
