Course details

This course is designed for students to deepen their knowledge and skills in accounting and financial management to take on higher level jobs in these disciplines. The students will be able to apply specific management accounting and financial skills to increase the productivity and efficiency of their business operations and assume higher levels of responsibility within these functional management areas as a result of advanced improved skills.

Entry Requirements

  • Diploma in Accounting and Finance awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy OR
  • Relevant Local/ Overseas Polytechnic Diploma or Professional qualifications
  • ITE/ Higher NITEC OR
  • Any other equivalent qualification would be considered on a case by case basis

English Language Rquirements

When prior education is not in the English Language medium of instruction any one of the following is required:

  • Professional Certificate in English - Intermediate awarded by FTMSGlobal Academy or equivalent OR
  • IELTS 5.5 to 6.5/ TOEFL (paper-based) > 500 or TOEFL (computer-based) > 173
  • Any other equivalent English qualifications

Course Outline

  • Advanced Financial Accounting: This module further develops on earlier accounting modules from diploma and provides further insight into accounting standards and their application to accounting issues in a company. This module covers the application of accounting standards on the areas of consolidation, associates and joint ventures. The module will show the importance of these forms in the area of business combinations.
  • Auditing Applications: This module provides an introduction to the expectations user groups have of audits and the audit report, and how the auditor may try to fulfill those expectations in the context of legal and regulatory requirements. It also explains the structures producing regulations and how auditors are qualified and regulate themselves. It will explain how user expectations are met in audit reports and how the expectation gap may be narrowed. The module will further explain how the auditor will execute an audit designed to fulfill the legitimate expectations of the users of the statements to which they relate. Overall the module covers auditing standards and the role of external auditors in forming an opinion on financial statements for a company.
  • Business Strategic Management: This module covers the conduct of drafting, implementing, and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives. It also focuses on understanding the process of specifying the organization's mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans, often in terms of projects and programs.
  • Human Resource Management: This course will provide the students with an in-depth understanding of the strategic and coherent approach to an organization's most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business. This module will also focus on effective business practices, like performance and reward management, to ensure the motivation and success of the human resource of the company. They will be introduced to different learning theories and styles, helping them reflect on their learning experience and increasing their effectiveness as independent self-learners. In addition, they will be involved with personal development planning (PDP) to improve their employability and professional skills.
  • Investment and Financial Analysis: This module provides an understanding of the investment appraisal activity of a firm and considers its objectives and how these are translated into decision making tools. It evaluates the role of the Capital Asset Pricing Model and the arbitrage Pricing Model in pricing risk.
  • Management Accounting: This module develops an understanding of current research in technical and theoretical areas of management accounting and explains the theory of divisionalization action and the application of transfer prices. Calculate appropriate performance measures. It also explains recent developments in operations management and the new management accounting approaches.
  • Taxation Systems: This course provides an introduction to taxation concepts and applications in relation to GST, personal tax and capital allowances. This involved a full understanding of the Singapore tax systems for individuals who has been employed and type of employment incomes which will be assessed for income tax purposes. A detailed study will be made on sales tax as they impact on individuals and corporation. This module will provide relevant experience for students entering the work place in accounting or finance role in future.
