Course details

Performance Appraisal is conducted by many organisations to review and assess staff work performance in order to determine performance rewards, promotions, work and training interventions. It is an opportunity for the Supervisors to coach and give feedback, both positive and negative, on a regular and timely basis so that their staff can grow and develop. In setting performance objectives to achieve, both supervisors and staff would then have a focus and targets to aim for.

What will I learn?

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of having a performance appraisal process that is both objective and effective.
  • Identify the performance appraisal cycle, the part staff, supervisor and organisation play in the cycle.
  • Engage in open and objective dialogue with one another during appraisal to set performance standards.
  • Work together with staff to set mutually agreed peformance targets and standards.
  • Implement effective strategies that increase staff motivation to perform better, manage low achievers and handle any disagreement in expectations.
  • Develop skills in observing and giving feedback, listening and asking questions for effective coaching and improve performance.
  • Use the staff development plan to set, monitor and measure the progress of performance targets to be achieved.

  • Understand the 3Ps for an effective performance appraisal review
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of both supervisors and staff in the performance management cycle
  • Learn important considerations in engaging an open and objective dialogue during appraisal feedback reviews
  • Identify effective strategies that will increase staff motivation to perform better, manage low achievers and handle any disagreement in expectations
  • Learn how to set clear and quantifiable key performance targets and expectations that is mutually agreeable by both supervisors and staff
  • Effective communication techniques in a performance appraisal review
  • Draw up an individual staff development plan and facilitating the development of others
